Clean Solar Solutions Ltd partnered with local company Proclean Kent to complete the cleaning of 130 roof mounted solar panels for H. V. Wooding, based in Hythe, Kent. The cleaning was completed in less than a day and the panels were left sparkling.
Solar panel cleaning on coastal areas is particularly important because salt water can get into the air and a build up of salt deposits can erode the aluminium framework of the solar array. Of all solar arrays, coastal arrays are often those that need cleaning the most. Salty deposits not only block out light and reduce the efficiency of a solar panel, but unlike other deposits, they can also cause damage to the solar panel.
Hythe is a town on the Kent coast (The sea can just be seen in the above photo.) and has, like much of the UK, taken a battering from the powerful winter storms. These storms have created a lot of airborne dirt which has been deposited on solar panels across the country. Combine this with salt in the sea air and the amount of seagulls who deposit their ‘presents’ on solar panels and you have a very strong case for needing your solar panels cleaned.
We were contacted by the company who have had their panels installed a little over 18 months. They recognised that solar panel cleaning should be a part of the routine maintenance of solar panels and especially so after the conditions previously mentioned.
H. V. Wooding were able to save money by having a cherry picker on site which we were able to use in order to gain access to the roof. Some of the solar panels were cleaned form the cherry picker and the rest were cleaned from a man safe system that is installed on the roof. This made for safe cleaning of the solar panels.
Because of the unprecedented storms that have battered the UK this winter, solar panels across the whole of the southern and home counties in particular will need cleaning. If you have not considered having your solar panels cleaned before, we strongly advise that you do so, so that you do not lose efficiency for the coming spring and summer.
